Tomorrow's Valentines day & I really hadn't thought of anything in particular for my wife, aside from going out to dinner. So yesterday afternoon after geting home from Church. I grabed a chunk of Peruvian pink opal from my box & started carving. It is rather light in color not as dark as I'd have liked. But the darker stuff I have wasn't large enough to do it. I finished it up this afternoon after trying a couple of different ideas for a bale (which I didn't like) I went with the simple route LOL. Held my breath while soldering it together afraid I'd break the whole thing from the heat. But the force was with me I guess & all went well. Hope you like it & thanks for taking a look.
Mike

That's GREAT, Mike!
How thick was the chunk you started with?

I didn't measure it just did as I usually do & eyeballed it. But probably 3/4" think by 1" wide & 2" long. Each heart is a little under 1" long. They had to be done at an angle to each other. With the tops overlaping. If it had been wood, I'd have started with a square piece & the hearts 90 degrees to each other. It was an interesting project LOL.

Fabulous, that is really impressive Mike, thanks for sharing. Obviously the material was solid enough to carve? I have been thinking of trying to carve some dendritic opal but have been unsure of how brittle it is.

Really done well, reminds me of the canes that have the links and balls. Your setting the bar pretty high.
