Anyone know anything about RV wiring? My fifth wheel has the clearance lights in front working but the ones in the back don't work and neither do the tail lights. Everything else except one backup light works. I have traced the two green wires from the fuse box to the rear of the rv and they both have power up to a point near the refer, then only one has power. ??
I am looking for a bottle of booze right now.....i.e. its driving me to drink.

Rodents like to chew wires if you camp in their neighborhoods. Vibration and chafing on frame can cause problems also. If you have power to a point, connect a new wire there and run it to the back. Tie into the wire to the back lights and see if it is the wiring there or between. With trailer wiring it is usually easier to run new wire than find and repair breaks.

I was thinking about this and if there were any downside to bypassing the 'break'. I will string a temp and see if I can 'See the Light'.

When I owned a motor home I couldn't keep up with the danged pack rats, always eating the wiring up. I finally sold it as is and let the next guy worry about it. Now I just stay at motels when I travel. Turned out it was cheaper than repairing the wires on the motor home. Curses on them pack rats!

I woulder if it could be like a car.. I believe that if even one light bulb is burnt out it will cause all the others to not work. Including the dashboard lights..
Maybe just a bulb ??

Probably on the vehicles of the 50's or prior. Now-a-days if a bulb goes out it only effects that light - unless it's a directional lamp, that will cause it to stop blinking but won't put the other light out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you checked your ground wires. A corroded ground connection will cause that problem also. Think about the battery when it gets corroded up and you try to start it when it's - 10-below............ |

I think the days of series wiring like on christmas tree lights, has long since been discontinued.
Ground wires were the first thing I checked.
I did find the area that was 'not responding' so I bypassed it with a jumper and got the clearance lights to work. Along with that, both green wires running to the tail light area were hot. The tail lights came on after a lot of 'jammin and jigglin' with the wires.
Its all working now so I think I will put it on the street corner and make someone a real 'sweet' deal....well after one more camping trip.
