This one has me feeling a bit like between a rock and a soft spot !  bricks

First glance at the small slab I thought for sure this was marcasite in some nice looking chalcedony. But as I got into it, what I thought was marcasite is black instead of metalic, and definitely not plumes.

I usually do not have problems with orange peeling, but I can't seem to shake it with this cab. I stopped after getting as far as 220 on the SC belt. Think I have to dop this one to get longer sweeping action across the belts.

I am sort of rambling on about this one, but it is giving me a bit of a hard time. Not even sure I am liking the looks of what ever it is anyway..  dunno

Anyone want to guess what mineral this might be since those spots are not metalic like marcasite and are actually black ?

Orange peel effect happens when we sand and try to polish a stone that is composed of harder and softer elements. It leaves an orange peel like appearance on the surface..

Well, after bringing the dome down to a pretty low profile that took care of the orange peel ..  The white is polish that I just did not care if it got into the pitting.  Just wanted to see if it would even take any kind of a polish.

But the material itself is just a bit of a disappointment so far..

I am going to try one more much larger cab, and towards the end fill in some of the inclusions with hxtal. I really dislike using things like hxtal, but filling in the small pits may bring it to life a bit.. Just not sure how that will end up working as am a little afraid the hxtal will end up drying harder than what the chalcedony is..

On the plus side, the next piece is pretty much free of any pitting.. So may be ok.

The name of this material is still unknown !  dunno
