Gentlemen - I'm a newbie and have a small problem that I need some help with.  As a newbie, I bought one of those green cast iron Chinese grinding/polishing machines off of ebay.  It runs at about 2400 or 2800 RPM, and is the 6 inch model.  I need to slow this thing down.  I've been told that a normal rheostat in the power line will ruin the motor.  All I know about electric procedures is that a finger in a light bulb socket will hurt.  Can anyone help me with my grinding machine speed?  I know - get rid of it and by a machine made for this purpose with adjustable speed.  I can't afford to do that, as much as I'd like to, so I need to try and fix the problem I have.  If anyone has any suggestions I'm all eyes and ears.

Since I'm new to this forum and unfamiliar with it's workings, Can any answers or suggestions be emailed to me at jpmlholian@aol.com.  I welcome any ideas.
