I did already purchased that one from Ebay in the previous post..

It sounds like it will do the trick.

I am even more confident now that Dan mentioned how the motor pulls most of it's amps at start up and when running slower. It has been the attempt to run the motor at a slow speed that is just not cutting it with a standard 4 amp dimmer switch.

The router variable speed controller I picked up will operate properly at 14 amps and between 1/4 and 3 hp.  Suppose to be for commercial use.

Can't wait to get it..

One big reason I am finding the need to slow it down is that the water dissipates off the lap disc really quickly and also the diamond pads.

Hope that slowing it down will leave the water on better.

Outstanding! Glad it works for you. I really like them. The only motor I have found that they will not work with is my baldor grinder. It has no effect on it at all!

Tell ya what Dean... I would like to take you up on that.

Especially helpful since the two of you are comfortable with using flat laps.

Many questions that are best asked in person while the flat lap is in front of us.

I know you two are generally pretty busy..

Thank you for the suggestion.  I got the speed control from Harbor Freight here in town.  It looks very like the original one, but that one is bolted to the machine.  Got it on the machine and it works fine.

I wanted to thank all of you for your help.  I got the switch and set it up, the motor quit.  Took it apart and cleaned it up good, new spacer and put it together - runs like a champ.  Now that I've got the whole thing running in the garage - it turns cold.  I've discovered that this is a wet process. 

Frankly, when it's cold the choice between getting wet cabbing rocks or melting lead and casting boolits is hands down going for the heat!  I anticipate that I won't be doing much cabbing this winter.  We will be going to the local club Christmas party Friday, our first meeting.  They are also doing a cabbing workshop on Sat.  Might try to make that.

Wayne, I agree with you on the wanting more heat!! My water system for the cabbing machines uses hot water and it makes it really nice to then cab in the cold!!
