This collection was passed on to my friend over ten years ago. We just started opening boxes and found hundreds if not thousands of samples. Neither of us has any knowledge as to what we're looking at and would like to see it with someone that can truly appreciate the decades of effort that went into collecting it

You might get better help locally by contacting local rockhound clubs, or rock shops.
But you might get help here as well.
