Does anyone have experience with this unit?  What do you think of it?  I just watched a youtube video for this unit and it was interesting.  I hope this topic has not already been beat to death somewhere on the forum.

I think it is a neat tool from what i have seen.  Can we live without it, yes, would it be nice to have, yes.  I picture it more as a jewelry finishing tool.  Its nice to be able to see through the grinding / polishing material while it is running so you get a better idea how your work is going.  They make it look like you can rough grind with it, but i don't know about that.  That is why i think it would be better as a finishing tool.  They aren't cheap if i remember correctly.

Look at the price of all the accesories you would need and the jumps considerably.
Have been told it was not very good for preforming and shaping.

I would guess that you are right on there Dave.  To me it doesn't seem heavy duty enough to do much shaping and preforming which is all grinding.  For cleaning up and polishing, it looks more useful.

I think that this is more of jewelry finishing tool than a lapidary tool, I just can't see doing a rock dry, imagine the dust cloud without water.

The trouble with this type of machine is that all the accessories are designed specifically for the machine and become costly or unavailable if the manufacturer discontinues production or goes out of business.  An example is Shopsmith for woodworkers.  Their saw blades and accessories are proprietary and cost considerably more than standard tools.
