Faced this pair tonight. Interesting black, yellow, red flames. The larger one has some calcite-filled fractures running through the core. Believe it to be Mexican material.

Wow. It's great to see so many variations of this stuff showing up here. Makes me want to go on a big "online prospecting" mission. I know better though, 'cuz when I do that I wind up with good overpriced rough, and bad reeaaally overpriced rough.
Thanks for posting those... .

Hi Vince,
I feel you. I buy quite a bit of rough online. It's a vice, but there are no good rock shops around here and only one show a year within driving distance. Not going to feed the saw that way! If I can get stuff like this for under $10 a pound I feel ok. Sometimes I get a great deal and other times I get burned. Overall I've had pretty good luck and have "met" some interesting folks. My wife has learned to stop asking what's in flat rate boxes that show up :).

Oh yeah - we've been giving our postal carrier a break lately. But $10/lb for rough like that in your photos would be okay as long as all the different colors polish consistently.
That's the crapshoot with anything, isn't it? Will parts of it undercut, or how much. It's a great feeling when that first "tester" polishes up easily. If they just won't polish, they always look good in the landscaping.

Ain't that the truth. I have a rock garden planned at the new house this spring. I won't have to go far to find material...
I'll try to cut a cab from these soon - Hope they polish! I'll share my results.
Thanks,
-Jeremy

Very nice flames!! You can feel the heat!!
I have a couple slabs I picked up in Quartzsite in 2015 from Tom McMahon that look just like the bottom one. Polishes beautifully but you may need to glue it up a little. The ones I have are a little soft along the edges of the flames.
Killer stuff!!

Cut another tonight... This one has a layer of pink covering the flames, along with some sagenite and white fortification at the center. A few sparkly druzy pockets around as well.
