Killer Cabochon Contest Entries For March 2016
«

For new members not familiar with how these contests work:
Entries are cabochons only and must be completed during the contest period. No cabs pulled from a drawer please.
Try to include a picture of the original slab, preform and the finished cabochon so we can see what your vision for the finished stone was from start to finish.
Be sure to tell us about the stone, what you liked about it, how it worked up and anything else you experienced while creating your entry for this contest.
You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral.
Please note that intarsia, finished jewelry, carvings and composite type cabs can not be entered in this contest.
Join in and have some fun! This is a friendly competition between peers. Winners may or may not receive a prize for their efforts.
Cabs posted here are only for the contest. One entry per member.

Someone has to be first.
Talusmans challenge was too much of a temptation.
I selected 5 slabs sitting on my bench and got to work, one cab was a stand-out.
The others I will show latter.
The slab is one of two cut off the heel of a Moroccan agate that has been sitting around for a couple of years.
Preform.
The finished cab sitting on the mother agate.
And finally another of the cab size 35 x 45 mm.
Thanks for looking folks.

Here is my entry for March...
A piece of Oregon river jasper I collected about 40 years ago out of the Coast Fork of the Willamette.
Finally got a saw that would handle the chunk and found this in there.
This cab measures 2 7/8" x 2 3/8' x 3/16" or 65z52x6 mm.
Thanks for looking,
Bill

Two entries and you have already set the bar kinda high. I had to search all the slabs to come up with something that would compete.
Here is a slab of lost ledge plume agate from the Cady Mountain
Preform.

Here's my freeform entry for March. I don't know what kind of agate it is, but it's a little different.
Thanks
Mike
