Cut the first cab from the material I collected on a recent trip to NV (see trip report in the trip section).

Material cut, ground and sanded great. A little undercutting of the "grain" with final sand/polish, but I tend to be attracted to pieces that have so much going on they can't help it.

I like the wood-like banding, brecciated streamers cutting across and the subtle purplish/beige colors.

Update: I believe this is fossil algae. Layers deposited over time on an ancient sea/lake bed and then fossilized and later silicified into the final material seen here.
