Hi all, glad to be here
first name is Jeff...
Been reading these forums for a couple months and gathering your wisdom, and the greatest thing I've learned is that I have ALOT to learn hahaha
Just got into lapidary, have a 10" Lortone slabber, double 8" expando unit, bench grinder for the heavy grinding, and a dremel. Going to get a drill press and wet band saw for trimming since right now the only way I can trim is to A) hope my aim is true on the slab saw lol B) use the dremel with a diamond cutoff wheel (messy, dangerous, and slooooowwww) or C) grind and grind and grind and grind.......................
I live around the Cadillac area in Michigan and am looking at working with all kinds of stuff, but my favorite is the Drummond Island Puddingstone (glacial erratic, jasper conglomerate). Already made some pieces but yeah, I have a lot to learn about polishing mainly....

Yeah, the upper peninsula is the place for agates. Lake Superior agates are awesome. I'm in the lower peninsula, most of our well known native stones are petoskey and pudding stones. Tons of plant fossils, calcite nodules/geodes, and whatever else the glaciers decided to deposit here
