Since I am lucky enough to be retiring in the Southwest (Yuma Arizona area), my wife and I plan on doing some rock-hounding, and I am going to get into lapidary. I have started purchasing some equipment, and some rough specimens to practice on. So, if I ask some dumb questions, please bear with me, and I'll try not to be to big of a pain in the "proverbial sit down", as my grand-dad used to put it, at least in mixed company. Eventually I dream of being able to not only enjoy taking rough stones and turning them into things of beauty, but being able to turn it into a source of income.

Welcome!
I hear Yuma is a good place for what you are doing. Good luck with it.

Welcome to the forum. I for one do not mind answering questions although I usually respond in a short and to the point way.
It is VERY difficult to move from hobbyist to the point of working stone as a "source of income".

to the forum! There's lots to be learned here. It is VERY difficult to move from hobbyist to the point of working stone as a "source of income".
Yes, and that is a topic that I will be approaching on this forum at some point in time...not really appropriate for the introduction area though.
