LS 14 bearings

Can someone give me a quick tutorial on replacing the bearings in my Panther?
Do I need a press or a hammer?

I am handy but have never dealt with bearings.

I assume you are talking about arbor bearings.  Never use a hammer on a bearing shaft.  Even if the bearings are to be replaced, you stand a very good chance of changing the dimensions of the shaft.  I've actually increased the diameter of a shaft full length that way on purpose.  (heat was added in that case to give uniform results.)  The best method is to use an arbor press, but a bench vice works quite well.  A drill press can also substitute.  I've even heard of it being done with a lever setup.  Make sure the housing is supported all around at one end and push the shaft out from the other, then reverse for the other end.  The housing can be supported by a deep wall socket or a squarely cut piece of pipe.  When assembling with new bearings, be sure you push only against the bearing ring that is being fitted.  IE the cone when pushing onto the shaft and the cup when inserting into the housing.

here is a link on replacing bearings using the vice method that SC eluded to although its for a drill press the process is the same be patient and watch the whole thing it may not seem relevant at first but it will be clear when he gets to removing and replacing the bearings.
