Groetjes from the Netherlands

Hello everyone,
I've been lurking for a while now, enjoying looking all of your pretty cabs and reading about lapidary equipment and all. I especially enjoy reading about the killer cab contest. In fact, I enjoy it so much that I would just love to participate myself! And I intend to, which is why I thought it would be a good idea to finally introduce myself.
My name is Jeske and I'm from the Netherlands. I've been doing cabbing since past january. I don't own any equipment yet, so I do my cabbing at a lapidary club. My favorite stones are, amongst others, pietersite (LOVE that one), rutilated quartz and crazy lace agate. Oooh I love stones!
You've all been an inspiration to me, thanks so much.
Jeske

Jeske:
I love crazy lace agate, too. It was the first slab I ever bought; I was about 10 years old and spent all my saved chore/allowance money on it at a rock show. I still have it after more than 40 years, and back then it cost $4.00, which to me was a huge amount of money at the time. It is my weak spot; I just bought 2 more slabs today which cost $4.00 apiece. I don't do anything with them but gloat over them, and because I think every part of them is pretty I can't bear to cut a cab!
Some day I'll take pictures of them and post them here, you guys might not think too much of them, but they're beautiful in my eyes.
Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hi Debbie!
Do you mean $4 or $400? Because that would make quite a difference, haha. I have some pieces like that lying around too, pieces that I don't intend to cut but that I like to keep as they are to admire and display. Not crazy lace, though (I don't have that much CLA), but some Australian tiger iron and Pietersite. Some of them are even polished, they are so pretty.
Thanks everyone for welcoming me :)

Welcome from Western MA.
Peaches, that is a gorgeous bracelet. I have cut a lot of cabs, but one thing that i have been waiting to try, is cutting curved stones for rings instead of flat cabs that stick out perpendicular to the band. I want to cut the stone to fit the ring shape so as to not stick out. I have some fire agate that i want to make a man's ring from for myself.

Thank you Kainzer! I'm looking forward to participating with the contests here. Now that the lapidary club has opened again after summer break I will finally have the opportunity to practice cabbing. I've looked through the previous Killer Cab Contest threads and have actively followed the previous contest (+voted), and there are quite some stunning pieces of work in there! Very inspiring.
Of course I will also keep participating with your lapidary challenge on facebook. I love that it has themes, because that's the real challenge! :)

Hi from England. Which part of Holland are you from? My brother lives in Aartswoud and parents were from Amsterdam.

Hi! I've never heard of Aartswoud but I do live near Amsterdam :-) Do you speak Dutch? (Since your parents are from the Netherlands). Where do you live?
