HELLO EVERYONE!

I am very new to lapidary (my lapidary "skills" are about three months old actually), but not new to loving rocks and minerals. It never ceases to amaze me how beautiful nature is and what she can create. Even when I was small, I was known to come home from the beach or park... or driveway... with pocket fulls of rocks. Not much has changed and my friends are constantly exclaiming about how I "have enough rocks already!".. not possible.

I recently quit my 6 year job of managing a tattoo and body piercing studio to pursue a simpler life that will allow me to create and do activist/outreach work instead of working 60+ hours a week like a crazy person. So far I am loving it.

I have so much to learn and am so excited to talk with you all about your finds and creations. I have been looking for an informative, positive community of like-minded individuals and it looks like this is the place! I hope to learn from you and get better at what I am doing and feel inspired.

I'll see you in the discussions!!

Welcome from Western MA.  Are the mineral rich areas of NC close to you?  I was thinking they were more to the west like in the Appalachians but for all i know, they are found state wide.  They have a lot of nice rocks to pick up over there.

Welcome from NYC hatsoff

(yes we have rocks other than the pseudo rocks of concrete and brick) bricks

I just purchased my first piece of equipment off of the bay, a used (looks very used) 6" Rock Rascal trim saw.  Can't wait until it arrives to spruce it up and get cutting. yippie

I do find some very nice patterned rocks here in the city, in the parks, along the shores, in the small streams and in the lakes and ponds. My wife likes the ones with the crisscrossing white lines.

Hope you do as well.

Regards,

Ken S.

Thank you for all the welcoming comments!

Gerard, I am sorry you had to endure that place.. I grew up in Jacksonville and promptly "hightailed it outta there" at 18.

Mark, There are apparently nice veins running through the Raleigh - Durham area. I had no idea that hounding was so prolific only an hour away from me, so we stand surprised together. haha.
