I use the bone I find, usually marrow bones, I don't know in your country but in France you can buy them to cook and eat the marrow.
So when they are cooked, and eaten, I finish to clean them so nothing is left on it. I sometimes boile them in water ( I tried to add bicarbonate but the result is not nice, do not use bleach either, water with soap if there is to much grease) Then I leave them outside to dry on the sun. When they are white enought I use them. I was told that they clean nicely in the earth, but I don't have any garden!!!
I am not sure I have the right way of doing, but didn't find any information about it. Sometimes the pendant is not too white, but for me it is okay. I do the final polish with white (fabulustre) or blue from Tahiti.
