Here is a picture link of the burning area:

One of the greatest rock hounding area is currently burning. From the Rockville area, Succor Creek to Graveyard Point, It is all burning or burnt. To anyone who has not heard of the Soda Spring fires it is huge. Currently over 200,000 acres in active fire zone. It started in Owyhee County, Idaho on Monday while I was out hunting jasper. There was a huge lightning storm with high winds that morning. When I left Succor Creek, Oregon I could see smoke rising miles away and thought it would be taken care of soon. Three days later the fire was out of control and now goes from near Jordan Valley, OR to Homedale, Or many miles to the north. There are road closures, power and phones are out and they have recommended home evacuations. I visited the area to help some of my friends on Wednesday, Aug 12, 2015. The rocks will survive but the ranchers, their families and the wildlife need your thoughts.

Thanks for the in-person update. The local news has just been showing a big "flame" icon for the fire over the last weeks, but not much detail beyond giving the acreage.

My wife said she can see the glow from our house 130 miles away.
I picked a good week to be in Utah.

Hey Bill,
I dont think the campground will burn since it is in the greenery area next to the creek, but I hear the area all around it is burned now. Should be some new finds after the next rain!

My thoughts exactly Tony. Mother nature removes all of the dry brush. The rain cleans them off, making it easier for rockhounds to spot them.
My favorite time for rockhounding in California was always right after the first rain following a desert brush fire. Less hiding places for those sneaky buzz tailed snakes to hide too.

Sorry to hear this. The wildlife suffers from a fire, but will recover.
