Hello out there,

Well, I now "need" a bigger saw! Gee. Found a used Highland Park J3 18 Inch Slab Saw in pretty good shape. No rust to speak of, peeling paint and seems to be free of leaks. Seller ia asking 500 (Includes blade). Is this in the reasonable zone??

Any suggestions on what to look for or check?

Thanks for any help.

For an HP, that's in the you're stealing it zone. Don't know about the new HP's, but that old one will outlast you.

BUY IT! Even if you have to replace the bearings and the blade, like someone else said, the saw will outlast you. An absolute tank. Parts are available from the new HP company.

Things to check would be blade condition (straight and life left), arbor bearings for wear, carriage assy for wear.  General condition (rust, etc.). As said though, at that price if it is in excellent shape it is just a plus.  I know a guy that says $100 per inch for used HP's.
