Hi my name is Reinhardt and I'm from Port Elizabeth South Africa, I'm currently the chairman of the South African Gem and Mineral Club. We have a basic but functional workshop where we cut cabs over the weekend, hopefully soon we will venture into faceting and that will be a whole new ball game. I'm also rather keen at starting up carving at the workshop but that is still down the pipeline. My Wife and I are planning on entering Gelong this year along with one of our club members Colin Towers. I enjoy all aspects of the hobby from rock hunting to lapidary work to micromounting.

Welcome from Western Massachusetts.  Do you get to see much Sugilite, Pietersite, or Tanzanite?  Those are 3 of my favorite stones.

I would not say a lot, but we do occasionally see sugilite and pietersite but its not exactly in abundance like lets say tigers eye or agates. Our Club seems to have quite a bit of the Botswana agates with the pink centers rather nice material.

Sorry I am so late to the chat.  One of the neat things about these boards is seeing the rocks that are common in different parts of the world and maybe trading other folks for them :)

Welcome to the party from Hong Kong.

If I remember right there where a couple of people posting fantastic trip reports from SA a few years back. So let's hope they are still around and see the post.

As SA is only more or less a warehouse/transit station for pietersite, I suppose you get to see the material just as often as the rest if the world. :)

Best regards, Kurt
