Been quite some time since I have posted any carvings, this star was originally going to be my design for the opal awards at Lightning Ridge, I did not enter this, its in my to do pile, I would have liked to do this in Ridge semi black but finding clean quality Ridge material these days is near impossible at a reasonable price, what I paid $500 for in 2013 is now around 4 to 5K, insane, my motivation to carve is not the same as a few years back.

Wow, Mick. A lot of carvings just leave me with a "how interesting" feeling, but your star is one that I would actually be interested in. The design is appealing and doesn't overwhelm the opal itself. A design that showcases the carving and the opal equally is great.

Side note on Ridge rough prices. Thanks for giving us an idea of price increases there. We have wondered if it was only that bad over here. Not only for price, but parcel sizes most places are now usually in grams instead of ounces or pounds.
