The Contin-Tail Rock Show will be held in Buena Vista, Colorado this year on August 14-16th.  This is an outdoor show with about 200 dealers from all over with mineral, slabs, and rough.  My wife and I have been attending the show for at least 15 years and it is one of my main sources for rough and slabs.

Having moved to Texas this is one of the things I really miss about Colorado.  For the adventurous, Mount Antero is right around the corner from the show.

Glad to hear the show is still on.  The lady that ran it died at last year's show and I heard it was up in the air whether the show would go on.  It was one of our favorite shows and a beautiful location.

Caroline will be missed but Greg and her kids are making sure the show continues.  I have to agree with the beauty of the location as you sit right below a whole chain of 14,000 foot peaks.

I haven't been up Antero since 1990 but have some nice aquas from there.  Too high for me to handle anymore.

Phil

It's 310 mile from Albuquerque to Buena Vista.

There are few hotels anywhere in the area and at this point, they are probably all booked as they also hold Gold Rush days the same weekend.  The actual show is just outside town at the Rodeo grounds and there is plenty of space for camping and trailers and I do know some people do just that.  This is an outdoor show

There were many customers camping around the show perimeter when we did the show.  I think we did it three years and always had a great time.  The area is so beautiful we always peeked at real estate ads when in town.  Town is a big draw for river rafters, hikers and mountain bikers I believe.  I don't know about motels in the area but worth checking.

My wife and I go down there for Friday, Saturday and Sunday and stay at a hotel in Salida 30 miles away.  We tried to book in March for our usual room at the Comfort Inn and there were no rooms available for Saturday Night.

Bob, are you related to the lady with the rock shop in Texas?  Between Austin and Johnson City.

Thanks.  She was related to owners of a rose quartz mine in CO that was called something Rose.  Enjoy the show for me.  I really miss it.

My wife and I had a blast as always.  Found a lot of great material from the various dealers.  One of the unusual finds was a material that looks like old Howardite but is more red than purple/lavender.  also opalized rather than jasper.  Bought all the material the guy had.  Also picked up 10 lbs of variscite, much of it spiderweb from one of the other dealers.

Very hot this year with temps in the 90's which is high for that elevation.

We were always amazed that we wore heavy jackets in the morning followed by worrying about sunburns in tee shirts in afternoon followed by afternoon thunder showers.  Glad you found nice materials.
