I really enjoy searching for lake superior agates out in the corn fields around here, here are a few found this spring.

I remember doing that as a kid with my Mom. She also knew the operators of every gravel pit in 50 miles and we would go on some weekends and hunt. Last time I went hunting in Minnesota was 20 years ago and my wife found a 1 1/2 pound red and white at the edge of a corn field.
