Was described by the seller as "Sea Fossil Stones from Asia"

Anyone have another name for it?

Thanks,

James

I think I have some similar stuff somewhere. Can we get a picture of a single piece on a solid black or white background. I think you camera in focusing on the screen. It looks like a moss agate from the pictures already there though. Also how hard is it and what kind of streak dose it have?

found this:

[http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-pcTumbled-CALLIGRAPHY-SCRIPT-STONE-MARIYAM-AAA-101g-FOSSIL-STONE-10-/301560084202?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item463661b6ea I think I've heard it referred to as writing stone. I have a piece, too, and have never been sure what it is.

Finally read the description, it's metaphysical property supposedly enables "channeled writing", hence writing stone.

Here's a couple of more pictures. My camera is not very good. It's an older Kodak (don't think they even make digital cameras anymore).
Need to get a new one with a good macro setting.

Thanks!

Went on Google and searched for Elephant Skin Jasper and came up with:

"Another example of misnamed jasper is Elephant Skin Jasper. This stone is actually a combination of shells, sand and other materials compressed together at enormous pressure. Because of the varying degrees of hardness in the stone, it is difficult to give the surface a smooth polish.
Often, the same stone can be known by different names depending on the person who is describing it. In addition to being called Elephant Skin Jasper, this stone is also known as Arabic Script Stone, Miriam Stone, Cobra Stone and Calligraphy Stone".

Not affiliated with the page in any way.

I have seen this referred to as Coquina jasper, elephant jasper, script, calligraphy and handwriting jasper. I was told it is from India. I have heard it can undercut like crazy unless it is stabilized, but I have also seen snuff bottles made of it and some lovely cabs, so clearly there is a way to deal with the issue.

Coquina Stone (jasper) is the common name I have seen.  It is beautiful and is a bear to cut and polish. Every piece I have cut is soft, wants to undercut and is slightly more like rhyolite than jasper. And I love the stuff, it is gorgeous when done correctly. Has anyone ever found a piece they thought was hard and well silicified?

Haven't tried to work any of it yet. Still setting up my equipment.

Got some more "I like it" odd stuff as well. Will post pictures tomorrow.
