I was given some of that rough years ago. Very nice rough with great translucency. Good find.

It can yield some very nice cabs with a wide range of visual effects: some dense red like the one below I cut recently, to attractive red patterns in a mostly translucent field. Your material looks like it will yield some really great cabs. Be sure to post what you cut.

I love the material. Wish I knew where to get some. Bob You can find this once in a while on eBay but you have to be patient and do searches periodically. Of course I would love to find this in the desert but since I moved back to the east coast this is no longer an option. I scored a nice fist sized chunk about a year ago and this should hold me for some time for cabs. The only issue when buying that I've seen is some material is cracky and fractured and it's hard to get clean cabs sometimes. This means if you buy this you need to try and calculate actual yield of the rough when determining value.

You can collect near the hole in the rock attraction south of Moab almost straight across the road. It's slim pickins, unless you catch a good rain storm, there is a wash at the bottom of the mountain across from the hole in the wall, there is some shattered across the mountain side, it's better on the hill side of the road going towards the slick rock trail.
