Bought a used vibratory tumbler from my local rock club.  got new mixed stainless steel shot and used a bit of water and a drop of dawn dish soap for my burnishing compound,  after tumbling for 30 minutes had a lot of black gunk in the tumbler barrel.  cleaned everything, then ran again with a partial can of coke in the barrel to clean it out, and still got black gunk the next time I tried to use it.  Is the barrel contaminated? or possibly the barrel is wore out?  any suggestions?

If it is a black rubber barrel the black is coming off of it, if it is from China it is just not the best rubber ever made.

All my best ...... Danny

Try cleaning the inside of the barrel with 'tire cleaner' available from auto supply stores.

Sounds like you found out why they were getting rid of it and putting it up for sale.
If the tire cleaner suggestion doesn't work, You're probably going to need a new barrel.
