Help with MDR faceting index gear
«

I have been trying to find 72, 80, and 96 tooth index gears for an MDR faceting machine without much luck. Does anyone have a source for these index gears? Otherwise, does anyone know if other faceting index gears can be adapted to this machine?
For reference, an MDR index gear consists of a brass spur gear with an outside diameter of 1.859 inches (1 7/8") and 1/8 inch thick with a smaller hub that is 1.715 inches in diameter, 3/8 inch thick and a 5/16 inch bore.

I don't have a solution to your problem. Perhaps someone here will be able to help. If not I'd suggest that you join the U.S. Faceter's Guild if you're haven't already. The membership includes many cutters using about every kind of faceting machine ever made, and some have machinists' skills at solving problems like yours.

This was a recent post from the USFG. You could try contact this person and see if he has those index gears that he can recreate for you:
William K Hunt says he can reproduce any index gear on a machine that he has in his shop. William is a faceter with several years experience .. The address I have for him is 1283 Miller , Fouke Ar.71837, Phone #870 853-5572.

I got replacement gears a couple yrs back from Everett Aplet, 230 w. North Rail street, Dietrich, Idaho 83324. MDR phone number is 208-544-7709, and email is
mdr1@cableone.net
hope this still works for you. They were not very good about answering the phone, but you might try the email first.
