Hi!
What speed should a grinding/faceting plate run? I "inherited" a vertical sander that is supposed to be used for sanding cabs, but the motor runs at 3500 rpm. And the 10 inch sanding plate is mounted on the motor shaft. too fast for lap grinding? You can see a pic of it at http://richardsonrockranch.com/lapidary.html ,  second item down. I'm thinking of inverting the sanding disk/ plate and converting it to a flat grinder type unit.
Thanks!

I have one of these and I wouldn't think you would want to bother converting it , just sell it as they work extremely well for dry polishing slabs.I imagine it would have to be stepped down by half in speed if you did want to use the motor in another way . These machines are very fast sanders  and polishers.
