I made a earwire jig a couple months ago so now it is a proven jig for jewelry fabrication.  It's easy to make, takes less than 30 minutes.

A piece of scrap wood and a 1/4" & a 1/8" wood dowel or nails. Drill your holes insert pegs and you are good to go.

I bend the wires while holding the coil of silver wire in one hand and placing my thumb on one end bend the wire around pegs and snip to size.

I leave a bit extra on the ball end for the silver ball. I flux the end and while holding with tweezers up side down and using a small butane torch carefully melt the wire end till I get the ball size I want.

To work harden them I tumble in stainless steel for 1 to 2 hours.

I've been using something similar for many a year too, thanks for the putting up the photo of one for everybody. These are handy little jigs and will assure you of making matching earwires every time and saves you lots of time.

Usually 20 gauge, round wire and dead soft. I tumble them for at least an hour but not over 2 hours to work harden them otherwise they will be wayyyyyyyyy to soft.

Thanks Bob,

However needed to Google 20 gauge = 0.8 mm.
