There is a big discussion going on in the Jade-world of the internet about this find.

Thus far, there are more questions than answers.

People are still making jades adzes . These people had great needs to manipulate materials  and are we imaginative enough to imagine what they might be. Cleaning the meat off a long pig perhaps?

Isn't 'long pig' slang for human meat?

There's no sharp edges from the picture, so it doesn't seem to be a cutting tool. They surmised it was used for carving or gouging wood. But how would you do that with a smooth edge? Very puzzling.

One aspect of the article I found interesting was the 1903 German report about a geological find of a similar stone 300 kilometers away. They may have jade in Indonesia.

"Long pig".  That made me laugh!  Haven't heard that term in 25 years (since I was in Australia). I knew a couple of guys there who were from native tribes in New Guinea and they jokingly used the term on occasion.

I'm still so new to the world of rocks that jade is still a big mystery to me.  The more I learn about it the less I seem to know!
