What's your favourite polishing lap and media for a specific gem material?

Garnet, tourmaline and corundum:
I use 3K pre-polish on Batt.
Polish 100K on Darkside.

Opal:
1200 Prepolish on Nubond
Cerium oxide on a ultralap (think plastic sheet loaded with polishing agent)

Cerium oxide on a vinyl lap may also work.
In certain cases a thin slurry of tin oxide may be helpful.

Quartz:
3K prepolish on Batt
Cerium oxide on Darkside lapp. If its a "problem" stone I use tin oxide.

Is the darkside lap as good with quartz as people  have said it is? How is it on big tables with quartz? thanks.

It is good, that's for sure.

I don't think I've tried to polish any quartz table larger then say 5 mm.
Still is quite quick at that size.

The Darkside is certainly impressive and not only with quartz. I liked the darkside on Xingquing so much I bought a second dedicated darkside.
