Yesterday I made two ring mountings for two cabs I had on hand. I usually don't make rings, Arlene doesn't like large rings, being I'm selling at a couple of craft fairs this fall I need some. Both would be made from Argentium Silver with a fine sterling bezel.

The Gem Silica presented no problems at all.   woohoo2

The Purple Banded Agate was something else. I had made it like the first mounting except for the round wire which was omitted. I used a 3/32" diameter nail set to emboss a design along the primeter of the bezel. I pickled it and was solding the ring shank to the back and then it happened.....crap....a meltdown.  saved5   I turned the torch off and buffed out the first mounting. I picked up the meltdown and checked it out. The edge had melted over to the bezel and it looked like it had possibilities. I placed the mounting on a solder block that had a hole for the shank to hide in and the ring base to sit flat on the block. I lit the torch and melted the silver all the way around  the bezel. It was odd the see the molted silver moving to the bezel but not melting it, just sort of sticking to it. I let it cool, had to recut the agate to get it to fit in place. I pickled it and put the stone in and started hammering around the edges to get the stone to be held in place. I didn't care if I sort of buggered it up or not as the buffing would smooth out. After the hammering I buffed it out and was right proud of the comeback.      yippie          yippie

I wished all of my shortcommings ended like this........ chuckle            chuckle
