MAP (minimum advertised price) of the Cab King 6" is $1399.  Anyone advertising for less is violating the manufacturer's rules.  The motors are not same manufacturer.  Cab King is Chinese.  DP uses an oem Baldor U.S. made motor.  DP wheels are made in house as well.   Barranca makes a killer 6"  6 wheel machine also but price is very high.

I would call them and ask if they can be used wet and if they have them in 1 1/2" width.  Also what grit are they?  Fine, medium, coarse doesn't really compute to 100 and 220 which is the most common lapidary wheels.

Just for the record, the shafts can be bent and also straightened.  DP has a machine for straightening and actually use it on all new motors before assembling.  I sold a used Genie to a customer and it had a bent shaft.  They could not straighten his but were nice enough to pull a shaft out of an old motor to get him going again.  The bearings and thrust washers are available from DP as well.

Stepping up voltage is not an issue.  The 50Hz is.  You really need to call Diamond Pacific before buying any converter.

We were always amazed that we wore heavy jackets in the morning followed by worrying about sunburns in tee shirts in afternoon followed by afternoon thunder showers.  Glad you found nice materials.

Thanks.  She was related to owners of a rose quartz mine in CO that was called something Rose.  Enjoy the show for me.  I really miss it.

Bob, are you related to the lady with the rock shop in Texas?  Between Austin and Johnson City.

They make Nova Discs that have the diamond in the same resin as Nova Wheels.  Those you wear out to the foam backing and replace entire disc.  I use the Magnetic Novas.  They are used with a flat steel backer and stick on magnetically.  They also have leather, felt, and canvas polish pads you load with diamond or polish compound.  If you have bare discs you can glue on foam discs and leather or other material and load like any polish pad.

Good luck with the converter.  Please post how it works.  I have been told there are no converters that work to run motors on different frequencies (except some brush type motors).  It would be really nice if it works.  I would check with Diamond Pacific before trying anything.  You may be able to get the motor rewound by a motor shop for less than a new motor.  Too bad about the pans and hoods.  They are not cheap either.  You already know how much wheels cost.

Peach colored opalite is pretty common in CA deserts.  Opalite is pretty easy to identify by wet glossy opaque look.

There were many customers camping around the show perimeter when we did the show.  I think we did it three years and always had a great time.  The area is so beautiful we always peeked at real estate ads when in town.  Town is a big draw for river rafters, hikers and mountain bikers I believe.  I don't know about motels in the area but worth checking.

Welcome to the forum.  If you have a local club with workshop you would do well to get involved.

Glad to hear the show is still on.  The lady that ran it died at last year's show and I heard it was up in the air whether the show would go on.  It was one of our favorite shows and a beautiful location.

Things to check would be blade condition (straight and life left), arbor bearings for wear, carriage assy for wear.  General condition (rust, etc.). As said though, at that price if it is in excellent shape it is just a plus.  I know a guy that says $100 per inch for used HP's.

Kingsley North had pretty good prices last time I looked.  I don't know if the industrial suppliers wheels would be the same or not but probably less expensive than through a lapidary supplier.
