1  The Gathering / Introductions / Hi! I'm Baaack. on: January 21, 2015, 02:59:57 pm
Hi there. Many of you won't know me. I was a regular 4 or 5 (or so) years ago. I was diagnosed with throat cancer - so for 6 months I did nothing but get treated.  it seems to have killed the cancer and it only ALMOST killed me.  So now three years later, I have clean scans and uncomfortable residual effects. The only really good side effect is I am no longer overweight. I lost over 100 lbs, proving again that if you don't eat you will lose weight.
terWell, that is the end of the good news for my health depatment because yesterday a cardiologist told me I need open heart surgery.  Yum Yum sounds great, doesn't it?  Well I had quit doing lapidary and silversmithing anyway, but now I feel as if I really have to get off the stick,  get off the dime?  get a Round Toit? whatever.  I want to sell what I have left.  Unfortunately, most of my rough got stolen as I was moving out of the house after my wife divorced me.  (WTF  Is this a daytime soap, or what?).
I have some rough, a very small amount, lots of cabs, faceted stones and all my silversmithing equipment.  I would like to put, among other thing, a beginners set, similar to the ones that Rio has. Mine, however, would have some more advanced tools in it.  Or maybe that should be separate. Whatever.  For those of you who don't know me, you can ask some old-timers who, I am sure, will vouch for my honest.   I don't have anything in eBay, but if you check my eBay name (also gregorgr8) you will see that I had a 100% rating.  I still have to go through what I have - as I have not yet unpacked after the divorce and move.  No wonder I have just beensitting around morosely, for the most part. Oh, also, her family got my dog  (aka  The Best Dog in the World)  but it is really ok cause they can afford the vet bills she is racking up and I couldn't.  Well, Hi old friends and hello new friends to be. Thank you in advance for your assistance, emotional support, and, I hope, a little financial support.  Keep on rockin'!  For the real rockhounds among you I have a whole file box of photocopies of field trips out of Lapidary Journal (back when it really WAS a Lapidary journal).  I had a complete collection from the very first through 2000 and later.  Since it is  copyrighted, I will not be selling the information (my lawyer tells me I have to say this) and only want some money for all the time I put in. It was many many hours.  I also have some of the early smaller magazines. All I really know is I was wacko for lapidary and paid too much.  I will post this message on the board for sales.
Thank you all very much.

Re your comment:  "The second pendant was cut from the other end, this is classic solid 'black' nephrite jade. As with all true black nephrite this is actually very dark olive green when cut thin enough. It takes a great polish and cuts really well, it does not have any of the directional fracturing that can sometimes plague nephrite jade."

If I remember correctly (always an if for me now) I saw some Black Edwards Jade from Wyoming that actually stayed black at the corner. Very rare now and $$$$

Stay well everyone,

Denny - v sorry to hear about your illness. I haven't been on here for about 5 years due to ill health myself including throat cancer. That, thank God, seems to have been beaten. I will be 3 years post treatment this October.  I only now am really ready to do things - must emotionally recover after the physical. And never get back to where you were.  So God bless and good luck to you and your family.

And so:  Palm wood is an absolutely GREAT rock.  A few suggestions:  where are you located? closest forum member might come over and help with pics, assessing value, or whetever.
Do you have Skype?  If so others could see that way and judge.
Just pick out an average piece and put it up for auction on this forum.

I hope this helps.

I wish I could get some, but I have to downsize incredibly much due to divorce.  After she saw me through years of treatment and recovery, she can't stand me anymore.  I understand that is not all that rare, unfortunately.

4  The Gathering / Introductions / ok so hello than (again) on: July 12, 2014, 05:56:02 pm
Well, I have not been here in years.  I got cancer and had to deal with that.  And now I am dealing with other crappy things.

The end-all is that I hope you like my rocks so I can pay back my soon-to-be-ex wife.

I will try to sell some here and also on eBay.  also as gregorgr8

I look forward to talking to those I used to "talk" to

Hi, Hope you are well enough to enjoy your books also ,  an addiction all too few understand. I can't imagine your trials but I hope you can enjoy your friends here again.

Thanks for the thought but I really believe the books are pretty much no longer part of my life. I intend to sell nearly all of them - maybe even the rock books. some, at least.  Will let the forum know first.

Hi to everyone - those that remember me and those that don't.  There are 15 pages of messages that I haven't read since I last was one - way to many to read (well, maybe if I do a page a week?) so I guess I will just start over like a new newbie (as opposed to an  old newbie - and the emphasis is on the 'old').
I don't remember how much I said about  what happened, so I will be brief.  I got throat cancer, took a year of chemo and radiation (nothing else in that time), and a year has passed since my treatment ended. There is no sign of recurrence, so, in all likelihood, I am cured. Yeay team!
The treatment I received, especially the radiation, was brutal. My radiation doc laughed and said, "We used to kill people with this treatment."  So this treatment did not kill me. But I feel as though I have been to the edge of hell and looked the devil in the eye and lived to walk away and tell about it.  Head and neck cancer are not as well known as other cancers and get no special support. anyway I am here and I am back.
Having been to the pit has caused me to re-examine my life and caused me to wonder what I am doing, and what I want to do with what I have left. Also, since I live in an "older adult community" there are lots of people around me dying and I go to their estate sales and wonder about alll my rocks. . . (My other heavy interest, books, won't be mentioned here.)
So anyway I am beginning to have a tinkle of an interest in doing lapidary and jewelry once again. I may be able to work a few hours a week and I will be able to check in here at least once a week.

Thanks for being here. There are so many of you so inspirational and so talented I blush.

Anyway         ROCK ON!

SARA:   You are great!  Don't  forget it.

as for music:  nothing beats the feeling of when the lateest Beatles album came out after I waited for weeks - rolled a big one - and watched the music dance.

Hi rockheads:  I am still recovering from my treatment - still am getting better but energy is still kind of low.  I will be putting some interesting rock books on ebay and  I put a very good Faberge book (titled "Faberge") on half and will be putting more on.  Not yet any rocks on ebay - but soon wil get some on.  Keep watching. I will try to notify you all  (y'all ?) but still somewhat forgetful.

Take care and y'all stay well.
