Sorry -- I tried posting this earlier and don't know what happened to it.  I'm still going through all the rocks I've recently inherited and found this one that I love.  I believe it's a piece of Montana Agate (Moss agate?).  Sorry for oversharing, but I get excited when I find some of these unique pieces (at least to me)  I've become a rock nerd!!

I've tried the wire wrapping and it was an epic failure!  I have several stones that need to be pieces of jewelry.  I can't afford electroplating/forming, and afraid of the torch needed to use silver bezel wire.   I do stained glass -- and I'm wondering why I can't foil wrap the stones, use a lead-free solder, and attach a ring to the top?  Has anyone tried this?  And how'd it work?

How wrong am I?

Here's the most interesting (in my opinion) of the rocks I'm trying to identify.  I have been told that they were all collected in or around North Dakota; and the collection is "many years" old.

Hi all!  I happened upon this forum while researching some rocks from a collection that I recently inhereted -- about 100 pounds of various rocks, most sliced and polished.  I am probably going to end up selling most of it, trying to work some of the pieces into stained-glass projects, and trying my hand at jewelry making.  But first I need someplace (hopefully this forum) that can help me identify some of the pieces.  I'm hoping that I can post some pictures/descriptions to the forum and maybe learn what the stones are, and some history behind them (where they're found) and maybe learn how to price some of pieces and where to find a market for them.
