Thanks Amanda !!. The pattern kinda dictated the shape. I had not planned to crown it in two directions either (top to bottom and sideways per photo), which really can't be seen in the photos, but that's the way if happened.

Got lucky, client loves it !!  yippie

I'm taking Jeremy's lead for this next month's cab contest and will be offering up a small section of cab-able slabs for the next winner of the monthly cab contest. I think ten entries is a good number so let's say we need at least ten entries.

This selection includes Stone Canyon Jasper, Jade, Sahara Desert Jasper, Mexican Banded Calcite and a bunch of other stuff.

Happy cabbing !!

I like the pick idea Bob. Looks like its good sized so it would be easy to hang on to. I also play guitar and one day made a agate saddle for a old Martin I have. The change was amazing in clarity and sustain. Try it if you have time and patience.

 Cheers,

Kent

A rather large piece at 3 1/4" x 1 3/4" x 3/8". I pared it down as much as I could without loosing the pattern I wanted.

It's still big.

Cheers,

Kent

I recently launched my web site after two months in the making and it grabbed the attention of a prospective client that wanted to see my shop and the available pendants up close. She got to see finished and ruff pieces and lots of slabs "in waiting". A nice piece of Morrisonite Jasper caught her eye so I worked with the pattern, shape and cost with her in the shop to her agreement. Here's the beginning and end shots. I'll have a shot video up on the web site of this piece soon, although it will be marked "sold". This is to be a gift for her daughter who will soon be graduating from law school.

Cheers,

Kent

Jeremy,

I think your right about it being dry creek agate. I Google imaged it and the results sure look like this piece. I'll make note of it in my post.

Thanks,

Kent

I'm usually making pendants and its rare for me to make a cab as I never know what the heck to do with them once made. This slab's been lying on my bench staring at me with too many fractures to make a pendant so it seemed fitting to cab up and join the party. I'm amazed at the number of beautiful cabs this month...W O W. !!  Dryhead Agate per Jeremy.  Where I got it I don't know but this pattern for the cab was seen long ago. I loved how the clear veins began to pop once I took it to 1500 then 3000 grit.

Thanks for looking !
