That is beautiful. I've lived my whole life in AZ and have never seen anything like that here.  Without giving away your secret spot, whereabouts did you find that material?

Tim
I did not dig this material. The son of the original owner sold it to me. It was sitting in his fathers back yard for a very long time. The father has long passed away. From all the research I've been doing, it is most likely found near Globe, Arizona. It possibly could be from the San Carlos Indian Reservation. It could also be from around the old town of Chrysotile,(this is a guess). I am doing more research on this material and trying to find accurate info on it. Eric(Ajo)

I have been cutting more of the Arizona Tigers eye. This rough makes some nice picture cabs. This looks like a mountain range with a wild fire coming over the ridge. Thought you guys would enjoy this one. Eric (Ajo)

Is that dark area at the top of the inner fortification a crystal pocket or more agate?

It is a pocket. I think it could be a hematite, but it is very soft. Eric(Ajo)

I took some time early this morning and finished this cab. I cut it from an odd end piece that I had set aside a while ago. Has a hematite filled stress line I was worried about. It held together so it should be good for bezel setting. I like the fortifications in this one along with the orange yellow. Sorry about the size if the picture. Tried to re-size on Photobucket but it was not letting me do it. Thanks for looking! Eric (Ajo)

I have a bunch of the green serpentine with asbestos from the Chrysotile area. Some is very solid but most requires stabilization. I only have one piece similar to yours and it is distinctly different in color and hardness. I have never found an accurate ID on it other than Arizona which it was labeled in the collection I bought.
Yes, this is very different stuff compared to the "tigers eye" from Chrysotile, AZ. I found only one picture from an old collection on mindat.org that might be the same thing. It refers to it as San Carlos Indian Reservation tigers eye. I will be going up to Globe AZ maybe in a few weeks. I am going to stop and talk to the guy at Copper City Rock Shop to see if he knows anything about this tigers eye. It would be neat to find out more about it. Thanks for all your help! Eric (Ajo)

I all. I wanted to share an Arizona tigers eye cab that I just  finished. I came across some rough in a backyard. I did some research and this is most likely San Carlos Indian Reservation material, possibly bear canyon. It could also be from around Chrysotile Arizona. This is not the mixed green serpentine and chrysotile tigers eye that you see from around that area. This is silicated material. Talking with the guy that I got it from, he thinks is was mined between 1930-1960. He remembers that is father brought it home and dumped it in the backyard. I have been slabbing some and it is beautiful rough. When it is cabbed and oriented right it does shows a decent cats eye. The final polish was a bit difficult because of the fibers undercutting a bit. If anyone has any tips on final polishing tigers eye it would be appreciated. If anyone know any history on this tigers eye it would be great. Eric(Ajo)

It was hard to really see what you have from the picture, so here is a rough guess. What you have is most likely a quartz that has negative imprints of some type of crystals, possibly calcite. I have heard people referring to this type of quartz as "Grizzly" agates. I am not sure where the name comes from. The quartz forms in the center of cavities that are lined with calcite crystal layers. The calcite crystals are later dissolved leaving the negative mold impressions on the outside of the quartz center. Hope this helps. Eric(Ajo)
