Thanks for your input Debbie K again, in my mind I was trying to talk myself out of the GRS 3rd hands as I have 1/2 dozen of the cheap ones and yes I do know you get what you pay for but what you are saying and all of the other reviews I've seen are now leading me to purchase the whole system, adjustable height plate extra bench pins etc, it's just seems it's a complete well thought out robust system which will serve for decades to come, now I just have to convince the wife to give me my Birthday and Christmas presents early as I still have my Christmas money tucked away.

And yes rock hounds and their families are the best and I am the one who usually sees the donations first, as I'm one of the younger members with a truck and still a strong back ura

Thanks Debbie K, I just thought it would a long shot to check here. I'm at the point I do require one especially for setting stones and I'm also looking at it as a third hand too, my wife is also starting to do some jewelry and every once in a while she doesn't have the use of her left arm with arthritis, so kinda looking to be able to help her with it too. Not sure if I can justify the soldering accessories for it as I have a dedicated soldering station separate from my bench but then I read all of the reviews about the third hands.......

I was originally at looking at getting one of the GRS engraving vises, not so much for the engraving part but to hold pieces for sanding, filing etc, but then I started looking at the Benchmate and all of the angles you can lock it in, it seems for the smalls I have been doing it would be an awesome clamp. And as far as anyone in our lapidary club, it seems I am the most advanced so no chance of buying one from a member, I guess I will have to wait til our dollar gains or I just bite the bullet and order one.

Would anybody know of a used GRS Benchmate around? I would like a new one but the way the Canadian dollar is compared to the USA dollar it's brutal, our Canadian dealers want almost $700 for the stone setters package while you folks only pay $436.

very nice, I find that myself and my customers like the cover up fix ups better than the original design idea, seems like the little extra creativity makes it pop a bit more

Seriously you can't even take a photograph???? How many tourists are going to get the fine and imprisonment, unsuspectingly taking pictures? WOW someone seriously has a bee in their bonnet!

I guess I'm just going to go with the pricing Gem Mountain has on their website, as some of them are from there, and just adjust it to the clarity I guess, not much else a rock hound can do when they are not a gemologist.

Most of them are under 1/2 carat but really clear and purty ha ha, we had them sent to Sri Lanka somewhere, it's the same place the gentleman has been using for quite some time and he has had no problems with them. Biggest problem with getting them cut in North America is we can not compete with the labor costs from overseas. We are happy with them. Now it's just a matter to figure out how much I can charge per carat for them, when I start making some jewelry with them.

Just wondering what most people have for an average price for Montana Sapphires? I noticed Gem Mountain has an average $300-$400 per carat. We had our gemologist friend of the club examine our 200+ carats from last year's fun at Gem Mountain and he sent out 25 to be done for us, plus some others we had found from a couple other mines, and he's telling us he's really impressed with them, and he usually values his gems on the high side. I realize there are a lot of factors involved grading them, just looking for an idea of their worth for when I start setting them. No pictures yet as they are in transit, unfortunately they are all under a carat but good quality as it takes a lot to impress the gemologist, and no we can't afford him to grade them
cheers

Forgive me if I posted this in the wrong place, as I wasn't sure exactly where to.
Is American Lapidary Wholesale a viable company? I have sent them two email requests for pricing of Graves items as their pricing online appear to be discounted from Graves List prices. I have purchased a used Mark IV and need a few things it did not come with. Any suggestions other than going direct to Graves?

Wow 450 hounds. No unfortunately we aren't signed up or a member. We may have a problem finding a room in the area, may have to hound there on the return. Have fun, if you happen to see a blue silverado with a silver topper and Saskatchewan personalized license plate it's me
Cheers

Yes Harmon's is a must stop as every time we are there they were either moving or closed, plus it would be nice to finally meet them as they are great friends with many in our rock club, Prairie Rock and Gem in Regina,Sk.

I'm assuming you are referring to Makoshika State Park?  Yes it is quite amazing there, between the wife and I we usually end up taking at least 300-500 pictures between us there, gotta love digital.
