cabs great - looks nice as rings and pendants - really nice if it has gold inclusions.

My stamps slip all the time - you just end up with a hand made look - over time it gets better, but not much.
What gets me most about stamping is when you have a miss hit  and the stamp or your piece careens into some dark corner never to be seen again.   dunno

Lots of great cabs this month - picture jasper seems to be popular. While digging in my old biggs slab stash I came up with this one.

So I gotta add one here.   The finished cab is about 22x36x4mm

Good luck all hope to see more in the little time left.

I haven't posted any of my creations in a while. The photography seems to take more time than constructing the piece.  I just photographed this one for a customer so since the pics are right here in front of me, here they are for you.  The Biggs is from a slab that has been sitting in my picture jasper stash box for some time.  The sterling silver (with the exception of the bezel) is reclaimed scrap that I forged and rolled into rectangular wire.  Here are 4 different views of the bracelet.

Thanks for that tip -

Here are 4 pics of some mexican cantera opal I just cut -  I used a small glass dish with a piece of black jade on the bottom. Quickly shot hand held with my iPhone 5S.  Just think what I would get taking a bit more time and using my tripod.

Throwing my hat in the ring with this cab from material I got recently in Tucson - Polychrome Picture Jasper from Madagascar. Finished cab is about 1 1/4 tall.

Thanks for those pics and the comment.

It is amazing how big clear epoxy pockets can be in Colbaugh's stabilized material,  there is some of that going on in my cabs, but not extreme.

The black is pyrite and i believe chert, but the pure white is what I have not seen before.  The pics it looks like light reflection, but some areas are pure white, Quartz?

I just got back from Tucson where I picked up some Stabilized Kingman Rough.

I cabbed up the most interesting piece of rough - here are pics of some earring pairs and cabs I will wrap.

This piece has spiderweb characteristics with pyrite  and black matrix and also has some pure white inclusions.  Any idea what the black or white  host stone may be?
14  Stone Talk / Moderator, Hummingbirdstones ( Robin ) / Mineral Specimens / Blue forest petrified wood on: October 27, 2015, 02:30:46 pm
I am looking for someone that may be able to identify a slab of blueforest wood as to species of tree it came from.  I have a lot of this wood and just wondering if there are very many species of trees that petrified there, and if it is possible to figure out the species.  I'm thinking that the best way was to cut a thin slab that i could get pics of the cell structure.   The photos here are magnified many times _ i am not sure used used a little USB close up camera.  THere are three pics of the largest I can magnify the cells and one id a 3/4" square slab.  I cut it about 3/4mm thin and backlit it.

If anyone here is a master at this I am open to any and all suggestions as to how to determine species.
