Title: Cleaning the old saw
Post by: Rockoteer on October 14, 2011, 04:09:21 pm

I just spent the last two days cleaning my 14" slab saw.  I think I let it go a little to long.  I didn't have any oil that I felt like I could salvage thru the paper bag method of filtering.  Just tossed the whole 9 yards and I will start over with fresh tomorrow.   Got to make a trip to town.

I would really like to go with a pump and do the "outside the saw" supply and filter system.  Let the oil drain into a filter system (we have discussed this on this forum before) and then pump out of the 'filtered' oil back into the saw blade.
I need to act on these thoughts.....

You just gotta have patience Gary.  I have taken some sludge out of my 12 inch that seemed almost all solid, let it set in a bucket for about 2 months and actually wound up recovering just under 2/3 of it back in good oil.  Didn't use the paper bag method because I thought basically the same as you, so I went and bought new.  Didn't have a place to dispose of the old stuff right away, so that is why it sat for the 2 mo. Just slowly poured the good stuff off into another bucket.

Kinda reminds me of a postcard I saw once.  Two buzzards were sitting on top of a cactus and one said to the other "Wait hell, I'm going out and kill something"

I thought I had patience but maybe not.

Had not heard that one.  Very good.
