Title: New 10" Covington saw arrived today...woohoo! Post by: srserl on May 21, 2011, 06:06:08 pm It seems well built and works great. It just produced a really nice slab and is working on the second one. I bought it from Kingsley North last Friday night and it was drop shipped from Covington Engineering in CA and arrived via FedEx this morning. It took me awhile to track down some mineral oil as someone just purchased the last 2 gallons from the nearest feed store an hour before I arrived. I found another feed store and got 2 gallons for myself. Then it only took 1/2 gallon, so I could have gone to Walmart and bought it in the pints if I only knew. I'm a little worried that the saw will require more frequent cleaning with such a small oil capacity.
Last weekend, for my birthday, I bought 150 lbs of rough from a member of our club, so I will keep the new toy busy. I will also keep my eyes open for a used larger saw so I can saw the bigger stuff I plan to collect. (second slab done, working on a third, so now I have a heel and 2 slabs) I really like the mineral oil because there is no odor that I remember from my dad's saws when I was growing up. Title: Re: New 10" Covington saw arrived today...woohoo! Post by: ElectricMonk on August 15, 2011, 07:00:01 pm So we have the same saw arriving tomorrow. Anything you have learned from its operation that would benefit a new owner?
I see that you are using mineral oil, we are doing the same in our 20" saw and it has been working great so far. Anyhow, just thought I would ask :) Title: Re: New 10" Covington saw arrived today...woohoo! Post by: srserl on August 15, 2011, 10:28:46 pm It comes pretty much ready to run; just add about 1/2 gallon of oil. You need to get it level, or maybe just slightly down hill to the rear. It will still probably leak a little oil off of the left side, because the drain channel can get blocked by rock sludge. The clutch for the power feed will probably need to be tightened after a few cuts, so expect it to stop feeding. It just needs to be tightened a little, but don't over tighten it as that is what saves the blade on really hard rocks. It makes beautiful cuts, and I can't really fault it. |
