Title: Question about Arizona's TPT Tax
Post by: GoodEarth on December 20, 2010, 06:44:33 pm
I can't seem to figure out how the Transaction privilege tax works. It is like a sales tax that the customers pay, or more of a back end cost of doing business?

Thanks in advance!

You are supposed to collect it from the customer, but very few of the vendors do.
Most just treat it as a back end/cost of doing business tax.
Some of them collect it if the customer pays with any method besides cash, but will pay it for them if they pay with cash.

TPT is AZ's version of sales tax.  AZ collects for AZ and most counties but some cities collect their own share.  It is a confusing state to do shows in.  Every state we do shows in are cracking down and stepping up enforcement.  We charge sales tax on everything over $20 and just eat it on the really small sales.  AZ has a special form for exempt sales to dealers for resale.

Seems as though everbody has his hand out any more.  Cities, counties, states, feds, world, universe, my neighbors, my relatives, my cat...he has his paw out.

Merry Christmas

Arizona now requires you to reregister your ATV in their state in order to use it there.  I quit taking my quads as it is a 60.00 + add on for me to take my two quads on vacation.   Just not worth it when I have 4X4.  Arizona like a lot of states are just financially strapped.  A sign of the times that we will just have to accept.  But, just have the rock ready cause I want to spend some money.  Jerry

Thanks guys... I figured on eating it... especially on cash sales. If I take a credit card for 25$ or less, I think it'll get passed on....

See you in a week!!!!!

I charge tax on every credit card and check, no matter the amount.

I was wondering about buying at the shows. It sounds like I can use my credit card. I hate to carry any large amount of cash. Do they take business checks if they do not take credit cards??

That will vary from dealer to dealer.
