Title: Nova backer pads?
Post by: pants78 on August 18, 2015, 09:09:24 am
How do you use these pads ? I understand they screw on the side of the genie ?? And are they a one time buy and once they are old and used up you have to purchase new ones? Or can u buy replacement pads ??
I also have some metal pads that screw on but they have no abrasive on them. What do I use and how do I get it to stick ? Bcc the genie says no silicon carbide so I'm assuming no sanding pads ?

They last quite a while and there are at least three brands of replacement pads available.

They make Nova Discs that have the diamond in the same resin as Nova Wheels.  Those you wear out to the foam backing and replace entire disc.  I use the Magnetic Novas.  They are used with a flat steel backer and stick on magnetically.  They also have leather, felt, and canvas polish pads you load with diamond or polish compound.  If you have bare discs you can glue on foam discs and leather or other material and load like any polish pad.

For polishing up to 100,000, I use canvas pads then get a square of stick on moleskin and put it in the middle of the wheel.  I then just spray on the appropriate diamond grit.  With the Genie ending at 3,000, I start with 8,000 spray and switch pads and continue all the way to 100,000.
