Title: Where To Fire It Up? Post by: Pistol_Ridge on March 03, 2015, 12:42:56 pm I saw a comment in another post that even though the metal clays are supposed to be "non-toxic" we should still fire it outside. I'm wondering about some of the creative ways others have developed to vent the kilns fumes. My first thought would to make a set-up on top of the kitchen stove and just turn on the vent fan. Hopefully we can get this section going with more Q&As.

Actually, I'm thinking of getting the smallest of these http://www.ventafume.com/content/pages/place-a-vent Model FE-500. The biggest draw for me, is that I can solder in my home studio in the winter with the windows shut, by venting it through the wall. [I'm in Toronto, Canada and winter is long...especially THIS winter.] It's not the cheapest solution, but I love that it's not real loud.....and it comes as a kit. When I've added up all the bits of things to do this myself.....I didn't really save money and the fans were always REALLY LOUD. They can be set up to duct outside of you can get them so they recirculate through a charcoal filter and a metal filter. I would just make a box for it to set on and you can run a temp hose through the window in a pinch. or set up permanent ducting if you near an outside wall or up through the ceiling.
