Title: Labels in AFMS competion..... Post by: Redwilder on March 28, 2012, 01:51:43 am Was wondering if anyone has a good example pic of a correct label for a competition case. I want to make sure i do them right and would like to see just how one is done that includes correct capitalization of mineral, name, location, etc...basically whatever makes a label great. When i think of doing it, these are examples of what i think would be correct but ....Am I??
Also, I was thinking of doing the labels by either using small wooden slabs and using a wood burner to do the labels or using model paint to stencil the wording on river stones instead of paper labels. Would that be advisable? If not, whats a good way in going about printing up good labels? At home or online...Kinkos?? Post by: bobby1 on March 28, 2012, 10:12:24 am Here are some photos of my competition case that I had in the CFMS show in Anderson, CA last year.
My labels were a simple label of the group rather than individual cabs. This is acceptable as per the AFMS rules. I used a triangular plastic piece with the label printed on an adhesive backed label. I used a Brother labeler and it prints on the label tape. The plastic pieces were cut from a 1/2" plastic rod that I got from Tap Plastics, a plastic supplies vendor. I used all capitals and a large font so the labels could be easily seen in the case. These photos are from a setup that I did at home before the show. The case setup was done from these photos so I didn't have to do as much work at the time I set up the case at the show. It was the first time that I had ever entered in a competitive show even though I have been displaying a case at various shows for over 35 years. It was a challenging opportunity but it was a lot of fun. One of the members of our club is a judge for the Federation so I picked his brain for tips and education on the rules. Study the rules thoroughly before you enter because there are a lot of details to the rules! I entered the Masters level for cabochons and got 98 points out of 100, good enough for a blue ribbon.
