O.K. I am in this time. I worked on this this morning. It's Mexican flame agate. I had to work around some pockets and some fractures. I had trouble with the auto focus on the camera, so sorry about the first two pics. I think you can make out the original slab and preform. Hope you like. Enjoy, Eric.

Don:

Every evening I get in from the studio after a day of making mugs and platters and look forward to seeing what new cabs are posted in this contest.   Tonight it's your graveyard plume agate, very striking and the polish on that piece.  It looks like liquid glass! Your photo of this piece is so good it looks like I can reach out and pick it up.  I have never purchased graveyard plume agate even though I've seen it for sale many times.  I didn't know it had such warm golden yellow hues, which I have found is not easy to find.

Okie dokie artichokie, so I have waited long enough that ive decided to enter my cab for this contest. Decided to go with a hunk of crazy lace that i was able to acquire the other day. Normally dont like to go with traditional shapes but recently ive working on large ovals. This piece had a flow to the stone that seemed to really pop with an oval. It came with challenges though. After i started working on it, i realized that the red portions were actually red hematite with agate veining. Soooo, had to really be careful so as to not allow the undercutting to get the best of me. Finished it with very little undercutting which really is not noticeable unless you really start super annalizing it. Came out with a nice gloss which i try showing in photo #4 with the lamp reflection

Now the competition is heating up and still 4 days to go.  hide

Great stuff there! yes

Lovely color Don. Difficult material to do well, with all those mixed hardnesses thrown in right next to each-other. GY sometimes seems to drive me crazy. Well done!

Redwilder; Wow that is huge. I find the bigger the cabs the harder it gets to give them a nice even shape. Other than that, love the color here too and the finish shows well as being better than reasonable.

Keep them coming!

For me, the frustrating part in larger cabs isnt so much the shape but getting a nice dome. Sometimes, Ill start working on a piece that seems workable but shortly after ive started, i realize that the thickness of the cab wasnt what it should be for a larger diameter. Makes me wanna toss it and make a pile of gravel, lol
Don, that is an amazing piece!  yes yes yes16Recently got some green moss out of india and found that it is pretty much impossible to avoid the pitting thats caused by the moss protruding out the surface as i grind. Guess a filler like HXATEL or something would be a great way to go, but its soooo expensive that i havent bought any to experiment with yet.
