Where is the Fire Obsidian? Just kidding, it is always good on the eyes to see what obsidian you come up with next. I am off to Glass Buttes in a couple of weeks....any requests? Woody

Pleasure's mine m'am Damn that velvet is just sick - I can't get over the contrasting colors - esp the red against green! Beautiful cabs Krystee, you definitely rule ob!

p.s. Does that Utah gold sheen have mahogany mixed in with it and sort of glint when you turn it in the light? I've got a few pieces like this that I'm trying to ID. They're pretty black with mahogany and a snowflake here and there (sometimes lots in patches) and the mahogany itself is, in some places/bands, iridescent - silver to gold and it has a very shiny glint to it. Looks very much like the band in that piece you have up there. Thanks!

Yep, that sounds like the utah stuff alright. Very black obsidian with mahogany bands that shimmer gold. Some of it is pure black with gold shimmer, but either way, you'll get spots of flake in both on occasion.

LOL Woody! Glass Buttes? Hmmmmmmm.....well..... isn't that the the only place the extremely rare fire is found Just kidding.... but wouldn't that be SOOOOOO COOL?!?!?!?! I've heard some amazing stories of people slabbing mahogany from there and accidentally hitting small pockets of fire. It's like winning the lottery! ......I can only dream!

Some of it is pure black with gold shimmer, but either way, you'll get spots of flake in both on occasion. Thanks Don! The same batch had some real oddities in it - one is a mahogany piece with a very translucent side with something that looks like milk in it, several pieces black as a hockey puck but with gold shimmering bands in it (not very bright shimmer but I suspect someone else cherry picked the lot before I got to it so one can only guess) and even one piece of rainbow mixed with black. The store was not thrilled with me - I had two crates of fist sized nodules spread out on the floor (making it a muddy mess) and was going over each and every piece with a spray bottle and flashlight. I offered to mop up and I bought quite a bit - that seemed to stem the glare.
