Hi Everyone,

Just a couple of notes and questions.
First, I have added a new board under 'the gathering' where we can post announcement for upcoming shows, events, estate sales, etc. Even interesting craigslist listings. I thought this might be helpful both for our members to promote club events, and to make sure everyone knows about all the best shows, estate sales, etc.

Now I have a question: Would there be any interest in a board devoted to stone beads? We have one for just about everything else lithic. I know we've got several regular members who roll or at least drill their beads. Also many more that use beads in jewelry. I'd love to learn more about it, but don't know much. If you folks think this is a good idea let me know. I don't see a whole lot of posts about beads...

Again, ideas, comments, suggestions all welcome.

The New Board under  "That Gathering": Super.  I like it!  yes

A new Board for gemstone and other stone beads, for discussing those projects with them or how to make said beads is pretty awesome.  I've felt kind of weird posting my bead embroidery before because the current area for showing our pieces really is meant more for wire wrapping, or silversmithing.

While we are on the whole suggestions thing - Are we able to get rid of that feedjit thingie on the side of the board?  That really can be a pain sometimes when it comes to getting the site to load - and I'm on high speed cable.  It took two minutes and a hit of the reload button this morning because feedjit didn't want to load.  I'd replace it with images of cabs/carvings folks on the forum have made.

You might be interested in a free add-on called "No Script". I didn't even know there was a feedjit until you mentioned it - just checked my "No Script" options and there it is, I can allow it if I want. Hmmm... nah, I don't want  chuckle

It is 'nag-ware' but it doesn't nag much or often (once in awhile when you start your browser it'll take you to it's home page where there's a donation button - that's pretty much the extent of it. I've been using it for over 2 years.

Frank:  That sounds like my Ad-block plus software I use as an add-on on Firefox.  I didn't know we had banner ads on this site till someone said something because my ad-block plus always gives me ad-free viewing.  I don't get those nasty flashing ads on the top of web pages anymore or those stupid animated ads that advertise for home refinancing.  Most of those ads are scams anyways so I was thrilled to be rid of them with ad-block plus.  However it doesn't block feedjit.

Very similar to adblock but it targets script instead and  by origin (have to enable smfforfree4.com or you won't see the forum, for example).

Here's what I use: AdBlock, AdBlock Plus, Ghostery (cookie, super-cookie blocker and more) and NoScript and I don't get tracked and I see very few ads no matter where I go. Only hard part is sometimes you hit a site and either nothing loads or things don't look right or you can't use the shopping cart etc - 99% of the time it's because you have to go and allow some script or cookies.

What I see here: The forum, the ads to forum member sites above and below the board and just a simple link to feedjit below the cab on the left and, of course, the donation button.

I see all that too except I have the whole Feedjit thing going on the side of the site. In one way it's nice to see where your traffic is coming from.  On the other hand if the gizmo showing you this information makes it SLOW to load the site is it really worth it?

Good addition! I have made a few beads (WHEW) and have bought quite a few to accent some of the cabs I have made. Hanging pendants is an ongoing battle with me. Though I am not a beader I occaisionally do a little bead work to help in setting and presenting the odd stone. I would like to see an area for beads. Mostly because I am about as dumb as a Rock when it comes to dealing with as well as making them.

Alright, so I have set up a bead board... let's get some content in there! I might get around to migrating a few threads over eventually, but not going to delve into that much now.

I hadn't noticed speed issues with the feedjit. I think it is kind of neat, but of course I can just throw in some google analytics code and get a much more detailed look at traffic trends. It just wouldn't be public is all. I guess I can replace it with some actual content. Got to think what this might be  thinking13

I'll probably leave it as a placeholder for now unless it is a big problem for several people. Let me ruminate on what else we might put there. Maybe showcase the KCC winners? More suggestions always welcome...

I think it would be a great idea to use the area to showcase the Cabs from the Killer Cab Contest.  yes
