OK folks, will all the recent hullaballoo, I am just now getting to post the KCC thread for the second half of February. As a special incentive to make sure we get a lot of entries, I will provide a NICE (but small) piece of gem silica rough to the winner of this KCC. I am too busy now to put up a photo, but trust me... YOU WANT THIS PRIZE!

For new members not familiar with how these contests work.

Entires are cabs only. Completed during this two week contest period. Not cabs pulled from the drawer.

We include a pic of the original slab, then a pic of the preform, and finally, the finished cab.

Please try to remember at least a pic or two of the original slab and or preform..

Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the mineral, and or what ever else you would like to share.

You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral.

Things like intarsias, jewelry, and composite type cabs can not be entered in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs.  :)

Remember, this is all in fun.  yes  Just a little something we do together as a group. More about just joining in, and having some fun.

Cabs posted here are only for the contest.

Post any others in a separate thread within the "Share Our Finished Cabs" board.  :)

Wonderful timing, I just posted that on a separate tread. LOL

I started out with three different possibilities but this Western Texas (the one on the left suits this edition really well.

Its a rescue of a throwaway, while not perfect, it turned out beautyfully

Wonderfully challenging material: soft areas versus super hard, Drusy pockets where you cant see them beforehand, moss all over (or are they plumes) with some tubes interspersed and on top of it all some banding. I would love to learn how all that came to be in a single stone.

Thanks for looking and keep them coming

Great entry Kurt.

Material (I love agate), positioning as well as shape (non boring) are all superb.

Thanks everyone.

Ooo, spooky cab!

Saw to late that there where two eyes and the fortification a blue tongue. Unfortunately, by then most of the left "eye" was already sanded out. LOL

Now lets see some more entries so we get back on track to our usual numbers.

Here goes.  This is my first entry into the Killer Cab contest.  I got a few end chunks of Imperial Jasper in Phoenix this year.  They were in the cheap tray of a vendor.  I managed to get a few slabs off of the chunks.  This is what is left of one piece.  It is about 3"x4".

After cutting (and breaking) I managed to get a piece cabbed.  Of course in my excitement I forgot to take a photo of the preform.  Next time maybe I can remember everything.  Here is the cab.  The photos don't really do justice to colors and shine but enjoy any way.

I never seem to have enough time to check out the cabs until the end of the contest. I am amazed what you did with the rough you had to work with. I like it.
