WOW! Those are really cool! Makes me want to try working with some. In a couple of weeks, funds permitting, I just might take the plunge & get some!

I put in the image tags so that it will display as a photo on the forum. when you are composing a post, the next-to-leftmost button on the second row will insert the tags you need to display images...

I also got a package from Bob! Thank you very much! But I have a question? I have not worked with fordite before so is there anything I need to know before I start cutting & grinding on any of it? Any hints, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi: First ... for Gerard (tetonartgallery)... plenty of rough available. I tried the 1 mm cab...WHOA too hard for me ...maybe some other day. Jennifer... WOW.. speedy delivery .. I am surprised... enjoy. "Donnie"... I slab it with a band saw ... I currently have a common wood band saw blade...but I ground off the kerf ... This narrows the amount of waste...but slows down the cutting speed. I have a shop vac attached to catch the dust (hepa filter) ... I attempt to cut parallel to the lay of the paint. I like bullseyes so I try to orient the saw along the paint. I only cut perpendicular to size a piece ... never to set up a cab. My wife likes lines...I like bullseyes... she does not grind (yet) ... so I get what I want (this time). ( I did cut her a couple cabs with lines...she was happy... I was only pleased they turned out great too., LOL) Fordite is soft...and can be brittle.. I tried to not sell or cut the brittle stuff ... though it can be worked ... with patience. ALWAYS USE LOTS OF WATER ... for grinding ...PERIOD !!! I usually take an untouched piece and grind a little to see what is lurking ... actually today I got a new set of Optivsiors w/ led lights ... and counted the number of metal flake layers in one of my finished stones... 15 layers kinda cool. I course grind at 220 grit belt on an expando drum... ? I cut the first bevel on the cab with the 220 belt...then go to diamond wheels ... coarse diamond 100 grit ... will destroy the fordite ... so 220 or so does most forming of the cab. 600 diamond to finish shaping... then diamond grit progession (on canvas discs) to 14000. If while grinding you hear "pop"..you just created a hole in the stone. Seems it will do that .. at the piont of a drip. I had been using ZAM then 50000 to finish .... But seems cerium oxide then 50000 makes for a better polish....just CO looks great by itself. I use rough leather w/CO ... dampened... to polish. CO seems to really outshine ZAM. TIP !!! If you want to cab both sides of the fordite ... you should not wax dop to the polished surface. I found that I could not get all the wax cleanly off the polished surface...and a razor blade will scratch the polish ...SO... place cellophane tape on the polish side and dop onto the tape ... works like a charm. Remember Fordite is paint and will dissolve in acetone ... so do not stabilize it with epoxy/acetone soak... fordite turns to cute little curly strips of paint. Questions? PLMK Bob C

Hey Bob,
Got mine too. Neat stuff. Haven't worked any yet.
Do you know how this stuff behaves in cyanoacrylate glue? I was thinking that might be a good way to stabilize the drippy bits...

Slap me up side the head! I have not tried ACC or epoxy or hxtal ... just been having too much fun making grey goo. I guess I should try it. I got a lot of hanging mini-drip pieces, that might become usable.
