I am in the process of making a functional gourd birdhouse for my Father for his Birthday next month.  I saw an image in a magazine of a gourd birdhouse resin statuary that was done to look like a cobblestone house.  I'm trying to do the same for Dad.  Dad loves to watch the birds.  So with that thought process in mind, I am looking for small 1/4-1/2 inch tumbled stones - the kind doesn't matter - though "earth tones" are preferable.

I already cleaned and prepped the dried gourd tonight, cut out the hole, and cut the top off so it can be hinged and latched later so Dad can easily clean it out every fall.  I'm going to Lowes sometime this week to grab a small hinge and small latch.  I stained the whole outside of the gourd a nice cherry wood color.

So if anyone has some small pieces of any kind of tumbled rock in the 1/4 - 1/2 inch range they would be willing to part with, leave a message here or drop me a PM.

I thought about using aquarium gravel - but all the stuff available for sale at work is dyed funky colors.  I have an aversion to using pink aquarium gravel.

Thank you!   yes

You might try the pet store for aquarium pebbles. Good luck with your project.

What an interesting idea.  What is the quantity that you are in need of?

I work at one.  Best I could find was funky dyed colors... However...

Gina:  A coworker actually happened to have something that fits what I need, so I'll be getting that.  She had a bag of older gravel from an aquarium at her home she had taken down and she said I could have it.   dancer5

Now I just need to find roofing material for the birdhouse roof...

I am glad you found something that works. I had been looking at my smaller beads 6mm to 8mm and wondering how hard it would be to cut them in half for you.
Copper shingles for the roof:)

Oh good you found some thing :)
I saw this and thought - Wow someone can use those small rocks!  LOL  I use small rocks when I run a batch through my tumbler to balance the load and the size of the fines to help polish... and have bags of polished rocks in various sizes from dimes to baby peas and smaller.  Never know what to do with them but I keep saving them anyway :)

Love to see pics when you get it finished!

(I agree with Sarah - Copper shingles would be great)
